Chapter 2412 - 2388: Nice Workmanship
All shock grenades have already been thrown down. Gao Yang gently waved his hand, and then Li Jinfang was the first to jump down again.Resistance was negligible, which was expected, as the enemy had placed their main defensive forces on the first underground level, so the resistance encountered on the second underground level wasn’t going to be overly intense.
Gao Yang was the second to descend. By the time he got down, Li Jinfang had already killed two men with handguns; both lying on the ground were dressed in civilian clothes rather than military uniforms, which was a good sign.
The second underground level was much more complex than the one above because it mainly consisted of living facilities. Though far more rudimentary compared to above, it was divided into small compartments, and all living amenities were present, even toilets underground.
Several rooms were around, silent and still, as Gao Yang and Li Jinfang vigilantly moved back-to-back, until Eileen and Peter descended too.
There were walls and doors, but they were all closed, with only the low hum of the generator continuously echoing.
When the external power source was cut off, the people inside could only rely on the generator for lighting, especially important for powering the ventilation system.
Gao Yang looked up at the light above, contemplating shooting it out, but raised his gun only to change his mind.
Listening carefully, Gao Yang found his ears were still ringing from the explosion earlier, preventing him from detecting where people might be hiding by sound.
Glancing around, Gao Yang picked a door, and after pointing it out, Eileen and Peter quickly took positions on either side of the wooden door. Gao Yang raised his shotgun and slowly approached, while Li Jinfang swiftly positioned himself to kick the door open.
A man stood behind the door, but the moment it was kicked open, he stood helplessly right behind it, letting out a desperate scream and starting to use his handgun. With a flick of his left wrist, a grenade slipped out.
But Li Jinfang kicked the door so hard, and since it wasn’t locked, when the highly tense man behind it threw the grenade, the door bounced off the wall and slammed shut again, causing the thrown grenade to bounce back inside, exploding indoors.
Gao Yang and Li Jinfang reacted quickly, and shrapnel from the grenade punched several holes through the thin door, but didn’t harm them.
As for the person inside, he was killed by his own grenade.
Li Jinfang gently kicked the door open again, finding the person who was behind now sprawled on the ground. He fired a shot to the back of their head and then signaled safety.
Gao Yang turned to face another door when suddenly gunfire erupted from inside, a row of bullet holes appearing rapidly on the wall. Gao Yang and the others promptly dropped, wildly retaliating with their own gunfire.
Neither side could see each other, with the enemy blindly shooting, forcing Gao Yang and his team to shoot back without being able to see the enemy.
The shooting inside stopped, leading Gao Yang and his team to halt their fire. Peter and Eileen quickly charged ahead; Eileen rushed to the door, but Peter leaned sideways, avoiding the wall.
Peter crashed through the wall straight into the room, as it was only partitioned with planks, allowing him to burst through the wall and charge in.
Yet, after barging in, still a bit disoriented, he spotted a man in the corner, gun aimed at the door, looking at him in shock.
As the enemy swung the gun towards him, Peter raised his foot and stomped diagonally, striking the enemy’s calf.
With a loud crack, the person stomped by Peter let out an excruciating scream. His calf bent unnaturally backward at a ninety-degree angle, with broken bones piercing the skin, causing him to collapse to one side. Peter released his grip on his rifle and grabbed the enemy’s handgun, pulling it from their grasp as they fell.
After snatching the handgun, Peter tossed it to the ground, then lifted his rifle again, firing two quick shots at the two figures still writhing, before directing the gun at the still screaming man, shouting, "Shut up! Where are the hostages you captured?"
When Gao Yang rushed in, he saw Peter shouting at the man wailing with a broken leg, while the other two enemies had already turned into corpses. There were only three people in total in the room.
There was another door inside the room. Eileen grabbed the handle and yanked it open. As Gao Yang jumped inside, he saw Lavagani tied to a metal-framed chair.
Gao Yang exhaled, grasping the talkie microphone, murmuring in a deep voice, "We’ve found the rescue target. Unbelievable, he’s still alive."
Lavagani looked at Gao Yang; he seemed unable to believe his eyes, his head hanging to one side as if too weak to support it, but Gao Yang knew Lavagani was definitely not dead, despite looking extremely miserable.
Lavagani suddenly started to cry, sobbing, tears streaming down as he struggled to straighten his head before weakly saying to Gao Yang, "Take me away, take me away..."
Gao Yang’s gaze fell on Lavagani’s legs; both were fixed to the extended rack, and his left leg was missing skin, revealing muscles, fat, and blood vessels below the calf that should have been covered by skin.
Lavagani’s left calf was being skinned alive, with his interrogators still in the process, had Gao Yang and his team not arrived.
Gao Yang was accustomed to bloody scenes and brutal treatment of captives, but witnessing a live skinning for the first time left him indeed somewhat uncomfortable.
"You’ve suffered. How many were there?"
"Three people, take me away, get me out of here..."
Lavagani’s voice was extremely hoarse, likely from too much shouting.
Lavagani was crying, his mouth half open, producing a rattling sound, as if he was too weak to cry.
Even though Lavagani seemed like a fool, Gao Yang genuinely felt compassion now, so he immediately shouted, "Panda, Fat Cat, you two hurry down! We have an injured person who needs attention."
"On my way!"
Andy He dashed swiftly down, and seeing Gao Yang and the other four unharmed, he visibly relaxed.
Upon closely examining who needed rescuing and after glancing at Lavagani’s skinless left leg, Andy He suddenly remarked, "Who did this? Quite skillful, aren’t they?"
