Mercenary's War

Chapter 2411 - 2387: Underground Battle

Chapter 2411 - 2387: Underground Battle

Grenades were continuously exploding in the basement, and everyone was intently listening to the sounds below. After all eight grenades had exploded, Gao Yang said in a low voice, "The space below is quite large. I’m not an expert at this, but I think there’s at least 300 square meters of space."

Peter shook his head and said, "500 square meters, that’s about right."

Li Jinfang thought about it and said in surprise, "So big! How can it be this big? Is this an underground shelter or a palace? It’s too exaggerated. Are you sure, Turtle?"

Peter nodded and said, "I’m very sure!"

Gao Yang let out a breath, saying, "It’s normal to be this big. Saleh has been managing this place for so many years, and it’s still much smaller compared to Gaddafi’s underground projects. The problem is, grenades can’t solve the problem."

After speaking, Gao Yang said with some frustration, "If only we had a cloud burst bomb, it would be great. If I had known, I would have saved one. Quickly send someone to retrieve a cloud burst bomb!"

Li Jinfang whispered, "If we throw a cloud burst bomb in there, Lavagani would definitely be dead. Boss, let’s not go to such extremes; otherwise, the Iranians would hate us to death. It’s clearly a cover-up, too obvious!"

Gao Yang said irritably, "I don’t care about his fate; must I go down just to be shot from four directions?"

Peter whispered, "The trouble is the bodies will be unidentifiable."

Gao Yang knew that if a cloud burst bomb was thrown down there, Lavagani’s certain death wasn’t the main issue. The main issue was that it might not even be possible to identify the bodies.

Unidentifiable bodies cause a lot of trouble. Simply put, if you want to identify the living or the dead and can’t confirm if Lavagani is down there, safety can’t be guaranteed, and the rescue or cover-up mission loses its meaning; ultimately, there’s no peace of mind.

Impatiently waving his hand, Gao Yang said softly, "Using a cloud burst bomb causes too much trouble to wrap up; we have to do a direct assault. Prepare."

Li Jinfang peeked down below and whispered, "A spiral staircase, indeed easy to be fired upon, but a shock grenade works very well in this kind of terrain. I’ll go down first."

Gao Yang gestured, "Gather the shock grenades and send them over, quickly!"

Eight shock grenades were gathered together, and each of the four people held two. After pulling the pins, Gao Yang whispered, "Three, two, one, throw!"

The shock grenades were thrown in four directions as much as possible. Then, Gao Yang and the others collectively covered their ears, waiting for the huge explosion sound beneath their feet, after which Li Jinfang immediately walked down the hole at a steady pace.

The concrete stairs were full of debris. Stepping on them made a creaking sound. Eileen was behind Li Jinfang, Gao Yang was behind Eileen, and after Li Jinfang had descended about three to four meters, he suddenly sped up and dashed down.

As Li Jinfang began to rush, gunfire erupted. Eileen followed quickly, and Gao Yang followed her, stepping three steps at a time down into the basement.

The spiral staircase had no handrails, and after descending five meters, it was a circular tube. The basement was approximately five meters below ground level, and after passing this circular passage, one could see the surrounding situation.

Gao Yang rushed down and found people below, all of whom were firing. Within the short time Li Jinfang rushed down, he had already killed at least four or five people.

The soundproof basement had eight shock grenades thrown in. Even in a large space, they could disorient people temporarily. Whether there was temporary blindness is hard to say, but Li Jinfang was not subjected to precise shooting, meaning the enemy failed to concentrate fire on him.

The defenders below were plentiful, and although the basement wasn’t divided into small spaces, it had many hidden soldier hideouts dug out from the walls, also known as concealment points or single soldier covers.

Each hideout had someone inside. People shooting from inside only needed to expose a small part of their body. So, while Li Jinfang’s shooting was accurate, it couldn’t be very rapid.

The problem wasn’t from the enemy’s shooting but from the grenades they threw in panic. The 500 square meter space sounds large, but the linear distance wasn’t very far, so grenades thrown randomly could reach a dangerously close distance.

A soldier threw a grenade that went off course, bounced against the wall, and exploded upon hitting the ground. However, the enemies hiding in cover weren’t hurt despite the nearby explosion. But Gao Yang and the others, unshielded in the middle, were different.

The grenade the soldier threw didn’t cause damage due to the distance, but it reminded everyone else. Soon two more grenades were thrown, one flying straight toward the correct position.

Eileen saw it clearly. She let go of the gun grip with her right hand, advanced two steps, and caught the grenade in her hand, then quickly threw it back.

"Get down!"

Eileen shouted urgently.

The grenade thrown back exploded mid-air but was far enough away. This brief moment was enough for Gao Yang and the others to finish shooting and kill all the exposed enemies completely.

Gao Yang got up from lying down and then shouted, "We really should have fired the cloud burst bomb."

While speaking, Gao Yang noticed he couldn’t hear his words clearly. The explosion sound from grenades was certainly loud, and in the enclosed basement, the explosion sound severely affected his hearing.

"Sooner or later, I’ll be deafened..."

Raising his voice and complaining self-deprecatingly, Gao Yang rushed into the soldier hideout in front of him, shooting every soldier he saw or adding an extra shot.

"These people are guards of the Presidential Palace, and most are equipped with night vision devices!"

The enclosed space couldn’t hold too many people; overcrowding would cause mutual interference. Now six people were already in the basement, and Taylor and Frey also rushed down, but the fight was already over.

"A total of twenty-four people, safety confirmed!"

Li Jinfang shouted, his hearing also impaired.

Gao Yang picked his ears, pointed to the ground, using sign language to tell the others there was another layer below, and they should find the entrance.

Soon, Taylor pointed at an uncovered hole, making a gesture.

Gao Yang looked over and then whispered into the walkie-talkie, "The underground space is limited. No need for everyone to come down; leave some to guard and cover from above. Two of you, bring all the shock grenades and grenades down."

Albert and Rafael descended to the basement, bringing along all the remaining shock grenades.

The shock grenades had excellent effects; one could see this from the regular grenades that could deafen. Gao Yang was confident in the final step of the attack ahead. He gestured, signaling to throw all the shock grenades down.

Now, Gao Yang was excited, feeling tense as well. After fighting all night, they finally encountered a challenging situation, a rare occurrence.
