Chapter 1045 - 1044: Do You Know Chu Shiyao?

"Forget it, Ruoying, if your brother-in-law doesn't want to talk, don't force him.""But..."

"Alright, if your brother-in-law doesn't want to talk, he must have his reasons."

Chu Ge didn't know how many times this was that Qin Ruojing helped him out, and while he was grateful in his heart, he still wore a carefree smile on his face.

Actually, Chu Ge really wanted to tell Qin Ruojing and Qin Ruoying everything about himself.

After all, no matter what he has been through, no matter how strong his personal abilities are, he is still a living person with various emotions.

As a person, of course he would feel fear, confusion, helplessness, and uncertainty. He also wanted to confide those bewildering matters to those most intimate to him.

But as a husband, a pillar of the family, a man whom the sisters trusted and relied upon, Chu Ge knew he couldn't do that.

It would be easy to tell them about these bizarre things, and perhaps he could indeed feel a short relief after confiding, but what about afterward?

The answer is clear: it would only add two more people in the world, his closest ones, to worry about him and be troubled by these matters, and there wouldn't be any other possible outcome.

Just like how earlier he didn't spill everything to Su Luo, if some things can't result in any positive or valuable effect, what's the point of saying them?

With strangers it's like that, let alone with the people closest to him. Chu Ge surely didn't want to add to Qin Ruojing and Qin Ruoying's worries.

The saying "fate beyond one's control" so aptly describes the situation.

Luckily, Chu Ge's mental resilience was strong enough that he could appear carefree, joking around with the Qin sisters. If it had happened to someone else, they might have already lost their appetite, be sleepless at night, stressed almost to the point of breaking down.

On one side, Chu Ge was skirting around the subject with the Qin sisters, while on the other, Su Yuanke was discussing those worrying and terrifying matters with Su Luo.

After listening to Su Yuanke, Su Luo couldn't help but let out a long sigh.

While walking with the Qin sisters, Chu Ge continued to be concerned about Su Yuanke's situation.

He remembered very clearly that yesterday, when Qin Ruoying mentioned Chu Shiyao, Su Yuanke's expression noticeably changed, and just now, Su Yuanke obviously had something he wanted to say to him.

But, with the Qin sisters around, it was definitely inconvenient to speak about some matters, and... the troubles he himself was facing were enough, he really didn't want to get involved in any more messy complications.

Others might think yesterday's street accident was just an incident, but Chu Ge knew full well what was really going on.

An accident, my foot!

Just like how he dealt with Watanabe Shinji, the guy in the black jacket was likely ninety-nine percent hypnotized by Su Yuanke and ended up dying in the accident.

A day quickly passed while shopping, eating, and sightseeing. Though Chu Ge and the Qin sisters didn't bring up any unpleasant topics, inside they all felt a bit apathetic.

Unknowingly, night fell, and the three of them returned to the hotel for rest after dinner.

Qin Ruoying went to the bathroom for a shower, leaving Chu Ge and Qin Ruojing sitting side by side on the sofa watching TV.

If it weren't for the recent troubles, Chu Ge would certainly be in good spirits, anticipating something enjoyable. Unfortunately, due to these messy matters, he simply couldn't relax, his mind was in chaos, like daydreaming but not quite, he was agitated and didn't even know what he was thinking about.

"Honey."

In this state, Chu Ge suddenly felt a gentle touch on his hand, snapping him back to reality, accompanied by a soft voice in his ear.

"Hmm?" Chu Ge turned his head to look at Qin Ruojing and smiled.

Qin Ruojing earnestly watched him, her eyes filled with deep tenderness and concern, "What is troubling you so much that you can't even tell me?"

Chu Ge smiled and shook his head, "Me, a carefree guy? What troubles could I possibly have? You're overthinking."

Qin Ruojing squeezed Chu Ge's hand, her expression showing a hint of helplessness, "Forget it, if you don't want to talk, I won't force you. But... if there's something I can help with, please tell me, after all, we're a couple, right?"

"Hmm... right."

"At Mr. Su's house earlier today, I felt that Su Yuanke wanted to speak with you. Since I noticed it, I'm sure you must have noticed it much earlier, right? You must have found it inconvenient to talk to him because you were with me and Ruoying?"

Chu Ge remained silent, but inwardly he was quite surprised. Su Yuanke indeed seemed to hesitate to speak, yet it wasn't obvious at all. Since when did Qin Ruojing become so perceptive?

"Not speaking means you agree?"

Seeing Chu Ge still silent, Qin Ruojing rubbed his fingers a few times and said, "Since you're concerned, why not go meet him? Now's not too late, the sooner you go, the sooner you'll return."

"But..." Chu Ge felt a bit torn, hesitantly looked at Qin Ruojing, "He held a knife to your neck during the daytime, aren't you angry?"

"Wasn't that just a misunderstanding? Besides, I wasn't really hurt. In your heart, am I such a petty person?"

Qin Ruojing paused, then laughed, "To say I'm not at all angry would be insincere. How about... you go talk business with him, and after you're done, punch him for me?"

Chu Ge was amused by Qin Ruojing, "That would be easy to say, but..."

"But what? You're worried about leaving me and Ruoying at the hotel? If that's your concern, then it's unnecessary. Before meeting you, didn't we live just fine for over twenty years? Go, if you want to, don't delay what's important."

Chu Ge rubbed Qin Ruojing's fingers and finally nodded, standing up from the sofa.

"Alright, I'll step out, help you with that punch, and return quickly. Is there any late-night snack you want? I'll bring it back for you."

"Forget the snack; just don't get into any trouble, and I'll be grateful enough."

Chu Ge smiled helplessly; he couldn't promise that, but because Su Yuanke might have some connection to Chu Shiyao, he couldn't stop thinking about it unless he talked to him.

Leaving the hotel, Chu Ge first called Su Yuanzhou, intending to ask for Su Yuanke's contact. Unfortunately, Yuanzhou's phone was off, so Chu Ge called a taxi to Su Luo's address.

It's only a little past seven, so he didn't worry about disturbing someone's rest. However, not having Su Luo's phone number meant he wasn't sure if the old man was home or if Yuanke would be there.

After over twenty minutes, Chu Ge arrived downstairs at Su Luo's place and saw a middle-aged man walking out of the building, just the person he was looking for—Su Yuanke.

"It's you?" Su Yuanke frowned, visibly guarded and dismissive, "Why are you here?"

"Do you know Chu Shiyao?"

Chu Ge wanted to return to Qin Ruojing and Qin Ruoying quickly, so he got straight to the point without any preamble.

"Nonsense, I have no idea what you're talking about."

Su Yuanke replied impatiently and started to walk away. Just when he was about to pass by Chu Ge, Chu Ge grabbed his shoulder.

"Don't know what I'm talking about? Then how do you explain the moment you froze upon hearing the name Chu Shiyao yesterday?"

Though Chu Ge didn't exert much force, his grip was like an iron clamp, keeping Yuanke from moving forward.

As Yuanke struggled, finding it futile, his expression grew darker.

"I said I don't know any Chu Shiyao, and I have nothing to explain to you. Let go of me."

Chu Ge snorted lightly, noncommittal.

"Are you insane? Don't think because the old man has a good impression of you, I'll indulge your bad habits!"

Before Yuanke could finish his words, he struck an elbow at Chu Ge's left rib. Despite the speed and element of surprise, Chu Ge seemed prepared, effortlessly blocking the strike.

"I'm insane? Seems to me you're hiding something." Chu Ge held Yuanke's shoulder with one hand and pushed his arm forward with the other. "Also, let me tell you something, don't think just because you're Mr. Su's grandson and Yuanzhou's brother, I won't do anything to you."

"You're insane! I'm in a hurry, no time for your nonsense, and I'll have you know, good dogs don't block the way—"

Before Yuanke finished, his body turned, his vision blurred, and a fist appeared right before his nose.

Fast, incredibly fast. Even though he watched Chu Ge's movements, he couldn't see it clearly.

"Today you held a knife to my wife's neck, so I at least owe you a punch. But I'll settle this score later. For now, you'd better be honest, or I can't guarantee where my next punch will land or how hard it will be."

Chu Ge said coldly, slowly pulling back the fist hovering just two centimeters from Yuanke's face, "Now, are you willing to talk to me properly?"
