Chapter 183 Encountering an Acquaintance
Chapter 183 Encountering an Acquaintance
Zhao Qi quickly finished introducing the second floor and didn't let them see their rooms first. He then led the five people to the third floor. The area above the third floor was actually the ground, but it was now covered with a thick layer of snow. To be honest, no one knew how high the snow layer was.
"This is the living area for us high-ranking officers in the base," Zhao Qi proudly introduced to Lu Yuan and the others.
Just as Ji Lang had guessed, this floor was also neatly divided into ten areas. Currently, only five areas had small buildings built on them, all of which were fully constructed. Each area also had its own courtyard, where cars were parked. There were gates on all four sides of this floor for cars to enter and exit.
“Where am I staying now?” Zhao Qi pointed to one of the courtyards, then to another building. “Our base’s boss lives there. Let’s go, let’s hurry over there. I don’t want to miss tonight’s event.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a car drove up in front of Zhao Qi. It was one of those shuttle buses that used to be only found in upscale residential areas. The driver was a young girl, and it seemed that this was a job where one could earn points.
The six people boarded the shuttle bus and soon arrived at the building Zhao Qi had mentioned. Two modified military jeeps were parked in the courtyard. Surprisingly, a tea table was set up in the courtyard, with a tea tray and six or seven chairs around it.
“The boss always entertains guests here. Anyway, it’s indoors and not cold. He doesn’t like people coming into his room.” Just as Zhao Qi finished speaking, a young man, who looked to be no more than 40 years old, came out of the room. He was carrying a tray with brewed Kung Fu tea on it.
"Please have a seat, everyone." The man said, placing the tea tray on the table before casually choosing a seat near the door.
"Boss, I've completed my mission, so I won't sit any longer. I need to go back and freshen up; I smell like a zombie. We have activities tonight." Zhao Qi said, sniffing himself as he walked around the zombie horde. Sure enough, he smelled like a zombie.
"Go ahead." Upon hearing Zhao Qi mention the evening's activities, the leader's expression suddenly changed, revealing his obvious disdain. However, he knew these activities were necessary to maintain stability at the base, so he didn't say anything further.
"Dude, I'm off now. Remember to come hang out tonight." After saying that, Zhao Qi patted Ji Lang and Lin Yun on the shoulder, turned around and left. Before leaving, he gave Yang Xiao a meaningful look.
"I have a feeling he's hinting at something." Yang Xiao glanced at Zhao Qi's back, shifted unhappily, and moved closer to Lu Yuan, whispering, "Let's sleep in the same room tonight."
"Hmm." Lu Yuan also felt that Zhao Qi's gaze was malicious just now. He nodded to Yang Xiao and then followed Ji Lang and the others to find a seat.
"Welcome to the Beijing base, everyone. I'm Jin Nan." The man smiled, poured them all a cup of tea, and continued, "Have you all already toured our base?"
"It's impressive. To be honest, it's the best non-governmental base I've ever seen," Ji Lang gave a sincere evaluation.
"That's really impressive." Lin Yun took a sip of tea and nodded. In this apocalyptic world, being able to leisurely enjoy tea is truly rare.
"Lu Yuan?" Before Jin Nan could speak, another man's voice came from behind him.
"You know him?" Yang Xiao looked up and saw the door behind Jin Nan open. A man in his thirties walked out. He was dressed neatly and had an air of nobility. He didn't look like someone who was trying to survive in the apocalypse at all.
"You don't know Jiang Yun?" Zhong Qiang usually enjoys watching TV dramas, especially those starring Jiang Yun, which are mostly serious dramas. Zhong Qiang is one of his viewers.
"Brother Jiang, I never thought we'd meet again." Lu Yuan really didn't expect to see Jiang Yun again. After all, there were more than 30 people on their ship back then, most of whom were from the entertainment industry and were powerless. Moreover, even though the South China Base was right in front of them, they chose to go home.
"Where are your friends?" Jiang Yun was puzzled because none of the people present were people he had met before, since Qin Yuan and Du Wenqing both seemed quite capable.
Lu Yuan didn't answer Jiang Yun, but instead asked him, "Where's Lan Yichen?"
Jiang Yun sat down next to Jin Nan. Hearing Lu Yuan's question, he simply shook his head, presumably indicating that it was over. Jin Nan gently squeezed his hand, and Jiang Yun finally snapped out of his reverie.
“I didn’t expect that any of you would know A-Yun. It’s fate.” Jin Nan said, looking at Jiang Yun and then at Lu Yuan. “A-Yun said that she was lucky to meet a few people in Y Town, otherwise she wouldn’t have been able to come back. I suppose this is the young man.”
"Hmm." Lu Yuan nodded, but then fell silent, and the surroundings immediately became quiet.
"Ahem..." Jin Nan broke the silence and continued, "Since we're all friends, I won't beat around the bush. You are all powerful individuals with special abilities, and I really hope that you can stay at the Beijing base."
Before he could finish speaking, Ji Lang was about to refuse, but Jin Nan was faster, immediately interrupting him, "Don't be so quick to refuse me. Stay here a few more days, and maybe you'll change your mind."
“Since we’re all friends, let’s not beat around the bush,” Ji Lang said. “We promise to stay a few more days, but if we have to leave in the end, we hope you won’t stop us.”
Jin Nan had actually anticipated their response, so he simply smiled and nodded. In truth, if it weren't for Lu Yuan, he wouldn't have given these people such a friendly look. If he treated everyone this way, how could he possibly have established his own base in this chaotic world?
Without lingering, the five returned to the second floor, their temporary accommodation. The base was quite generous, providing each of them with a room. However, for safety reasons, and with Yang Xiao's various antics and Lin Yun's mediation, Lu Yuan, Yang Xiao, and Zhong Qiang ended up sharing a room, while Lin Yun and Ji Lang stayed in the room next to them.
"Why do we have to live separately from Captain Ji and the others? Wouldn't it be safer to live in the same room?" Zhong Qiang finally couldn't help but ask as he entered the room.
“How are we supposed to secretly watch all that stuff that the research institute moved out of if we live with them?” Yang Xiao patted Zhong Qiang’s head and started checking with Lu Yuan to make sure there were no surveillance cameras in the room.
"I looked around and there was nothing there. It seems they really value privacy here." Lu Yuan sat down on the small sofa in the room. The room was furnished like a standard hotel room, but it only had a two-meter-long bed, a small round table, and a small sofa.
Although the base has a power source, it does not provide electronic equipment; the rooms only have ordinary chandeliers and a table lamp.
"Shall we get started now?" Yang Xiao moved the small table aside and plopped down on the ground. Fortunately, there was a carpet on the ground, and since he was an ability user, he wasn't afraid of the cold.
"Knock knock knock..." Just as Lu Yuan was about to take out the research institute's items that he had stored in his spatial storage, there was a knock on their door.
