Chapter 1384: Dash Through the Hallway ( 1384 )
Back to present.Evening.
Just as they passed through another border town in the Beastkin Nation, a familiar voice rang out from the carriage.
"Brother-in-laawww!"
Javier and Buddy paused, followed by the Beastkin Royal Special Forces on their mounts and the Armand personnel. Faelar also slowed, glancing back as Lyzia’s head popped out of the carriage window, her cheeks puffed in a pout.
"Ihhhh! What is it now, Lyzia? Ugh!" Javier groaned, rubbing his temples. "You’re not supposed to be sticking your head out like that! You’re a princess of the Elven Nation! You’re not supposed to be leaning out of the carriage like that."
Lyzia puffed her cheeks further, glaring at Javier with a sulky expression before mumbling, "C... Celine said she’s hungry."
Celine, who was sitting beside her, snapped her head toward Lyzia, her eyes wide with surprise. She fidgeted nervously, her cheeks flushing.
"Eh!? I...I didn’t."
Javier let out a long, weary exhale, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"It’s just two more towns, and then we’ll reach the Armand eastern border. Can’t you both wait a little longer?"
Lyzia mumbled something under her breath, her voice barely audible.
"I’m hungry too... and it’s boring just sitting inside the carriage. Can’t we stop by this town and visit the market?"
Javier’s eyes narrowed further, his voice flat.
"You’re the one who insisted on coming along. You knew this wasn’t a sightseeing trip."
Lyzia made a face, her expression shifting into the perfect, innocent, hopeful look.
"Brother-in-law... pleaseeeee~"
Javier’s eye twitched. "Ugh! This is why I hate this! Fine! Thirty minutes!"
Lyzia’s face lit up with excitement. She grabbed Celine’s hand and pulled her out of the carriage. Faelar climbed down from the pekko, letting out a quiet sigh as he prepared to follow and safeguard them.
Javier shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose as he mumbled under his breath. "Just you wait... I’m telling Liana about this."
Lyzia turned around, narrowing her eyes at him with a pout. She clasped her hands in front of her, swaying slightly from side to side before speaking.
"I just want to eat, that’s all! Why do you have to complain to my sister about it?" She bit her lower lip, glancing up at him with a soft, pleading expression. "You should pamper me a little, you know? I’m your cute little sister-in-law, after all~"
"Huh? Cute? Where?" Javier glanced around, pretending to search for something, while Buddy mimicked him, tilting his head with a dumb, exaggerated look.
Lyzia stomped her foot, her cheeks puffing, before her lips curled into a slight smirk. She gracefully adjusted her hair, clasped both hands in front of her, and bowed with perfect, elegant poise.
"We’re going now, young master."
Javier’s brow twitched as Buddy let out a sharp, mocking squawk.
"Cuquawked!" (Hahaha~ Look at that little witch! She’s mimicking the witch at home!. She’s got you there, master~)
"Ugh!" Javier groaned, turning to glare at Buddy. "It’s not the same! There’s a huge difference!"
Before he could continue, Celine stepped forward. She smoothed her dress and offered a graceful, formal curtsy.
"Thank you for allowing us this short rest, Husband. We promise we won’t be long." Her voice was soft, her smile gentle and sincere. "I will make sure we return promptly."
Javier let out a long sigh, his shoulders relaxing slightly.
"Alright, alright. Just don’t wander too far. Stay within the market area. And make sure to call if anything happens. Stay within sight of all the personnel."
Meanwhile.
Armand Nation.
Armand Estate.
Mimi bit her lower lip in excitement, her tail swaying happily behind her as she stood with both hands on her hips, gazing up at her newly built treehouse from below.
"Nyaaa~ Finally! Mimi’s dream treehouse is complete! Mehehehe~"
She bounced on her heels, her eyes scanning every detail of the wooden structure nestled among the branches. The carpenters had done an excellent job, sturdy railings, a small balcony, and even a little ladder leading up to the entrance.
She glanced around in excitement, her eyes sparkling with joy, before turning and rushing back toward the Armand manor, mumbled to herself, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm.
"What should I add next? A soft bed? A shelf for my treasures? Maybe a little kitchenette for snacks! Oh! A hammock Nyaaaaa! Ehehehe"
Mimi pushed the heavy door open with a grunt, slipping inside before carefully closing it behind her. She took off running down the hallway, her tail streaming behind her, before skidding to a halt and pressing herself against a pillar, peeking around it cautiously.
"Nyaa... Mrs. Erinette... She’ll be furious if she catches me running in the hallway. Big Sis Liana said she’s far stronger than both her and Big Sis Gloria combined. Super scary Head of all maids, nya~"
She watched as Erinette stood a short distance away, calmly issuing orders to a group of maids. Her posture was elegant, her voice firm but composed. She waited until Erinette finished and gracefully walked away, disappearing around a corner.
Mimi let out a quiet sigh of relief, stepping out from behind the pillar. She smoothed her clothes and adjusted her short pants, tapping off any dust before walking casually down the hallway, her tail swaying innocently behind her.
Wonder where Big Sis is?
Last time I saw Big Sis Liana and Big Sis Gloria, they were being called by Lady Mother after breakfast. I wonder what they talked about?
She shrugged, her ears twitching as a loud growl echoed from her stomach.
"Nyaaa... Mimi’s hungry~"
She bit her lower lip, rubbing her stomach as she glanced around.
"Maybe Mimi should go eat first?"
She paused, her tail drooping slightly.
"But Mimi wants to eat Big Sis’s cooking, nyaaa~"
Maybe they’re at our room~ Ehehehe~
Mimi’s tail perked up as she dashed down the hallway, her excitement bubbling over. She reached the door to Javier’s room, pushed it open, peeking inside.
"Big Sis!"
She paused, her ears drooping as she saw the room was empty.
"Nyaaa! Where is everyone?"
She puffed her cheeks, pulling the door closed before standing in the hallway, sniffing the air lightly. Her ears twitched as she caught a familiar scent.
"Nya?"
A wide grin spread across her face.
"Ehehehe~ Big Sis isn’t too far~"
She took off running again, her tail streaming behind her. As she rounded a corner, a maid carrying a large stack of linens let out a startled yelp, stumbling sideways to avoid a collision.
Mimi glanced over her shoulder, a sheepish grin on her face as she called out, "Sorry, nya!"
