Chapter 1108: An Unexpected Encounter While Sightseeing
After leaving the house, Jiang Xue thought about how little time they had in the afternoon since Mr. Mu was still at home, and they needed to be back to prepare dinner in the evening. So, she chose a few nearby places to visit and planned to go back afterward.
As soon as Mu Qiancheng heard Jiang Xue wanted to tour the Imperial City, he immediately turned the car around and headed there.
When they arrived, Mu Qiancheng parked the car, then carried Little Reunion and accompanied Jiang Xue for the tour. Fortunately, Mu Qiancheng had a military ID, so they avoided the trouble of waiting in line. Otherwise, just by looking at the queue that was about a mile long, who knows how long it would take them to enter the Imperial City.
They bought the tickets, then the couple with their child queued up to enter the Imperial City. Once inside, they began their leisurely tour of various palaces, the Imperial Garden, places where the emperor and empress lived, and several exhibition halls.
They only sat down to rest when they got tired. As soon as they sat down, someone exclaimed in surprise, "Qiancheng, sis-in-law, you’re here too?"
Hearing this, Jiang Xue looked up and saw that it was none other than Gong Bei? Of course, Gong Bei wasn’t alone; Wang Yuning was with him.
Seeing them, Jiang Xue smiled and said, "What a coincidence, I didn’t expect to run into you here."
"Who would have thought? If I knew you were coming, we could have arranged to come together." Wang Yuning said with a smile, not noticing the strange look on Gong Bei’s face.
Even if he knew Mu Qiancheng was coming, he wouldn’t join them. He didn’t want his first date to have several third wheels hanging around.
"Did you finish the tour?" Jiang Xue asked with a smile, marveling at how the Imperial City truly lived up to its name as the emperor’s residence, with numerous buildings. The only regret was the lack of flowers and trees.
Jiang Xue couldn’t understand this before, so she asked Mu Qiancheng specially. Mu Qiancheng told her that emperors feared for their lives, so this place had more buildings and fewer trees, to reduce hiding places for people.
Although Jiang Xue found this reasoning a bit amusing, on second thought, it made sense.
"We’re done and were just about to leave. What about you?" Gong Bei replied with a smile. He and Wang Yuning had spent the afternoon touring and were ready to go for a meal.
Unexpectedly, they ran into Mu Qiancheng near the exit. If Wang Yuning hadn’t pulled him over, he would have ignored them and left directly.
"We’ve seen almost everything."
"In that case, why don’t we go for a meal together?" Wang Yuning suggested with a smile, completely oblivious to Gong Bei’s darkened expression.
All he wanted was to have a meal with Wang Yuning alone, not with several third wheels. He kept trying to signal Mu Qiancheng with his eyes, but Mu Qiancheng acted as if he hadn’t seen and didn’t respond to any of his hints.
Jiang Xue, however, remembered that Mr. Mu was home, so she shook her head with a smile and said, "Perhaps another day; we need to go back and have dinner with grandpa, who’s home alone."
As soon as she said this, Gong Bei breathed a sigh of relief. However, Wang Yuning said, "It’s no problem, why don’t you invite your grandpa to join us? The more, the merrier."
Gong Bei’s heart was back in his throat, and he couldn’t tell Wang Yuning he didn’t want outsiders at dinner, so he turned to Jiang Xue, desperately signaling her: Don’t agree, don’t agree.
Seeing Gong Bei’s anxious and worried look, she found it amusing and deliberately made a thinking gesture.
