Chapter 83 83: A Romance Called Dreams Come True

Let's rewind time a little.The golden bell, silent for centuries, tolled once again, its resonance splitting the skies.

(I was originally planning to skim over Montblanc Cricket's reaction but I just can't. Cricket's a real man. Even if he never fully believed in the existence of the Golden City, even if people mocked him, he never gave up. That kind of stubborn resolve is incredibly charismatic. He deserves more than a passing mention.)

The thunderous chime of the golden bell pierced the sea of clouds, echoing above Mock Town.

Cricket had made a bet with the monkey that the pirate crew wouldn't laugh at his dream. The result? Well, no surprise he lost again, down to his last pair of prized banana-print boxers.

Pounding the ground in frustration, venting his unwillingness to give in, he was just about to ask his crewmates for an emergency pair of underpants when

"Boss! Did you hear that !" the monkey was leaping around in front of him, arms flailing.

But Cricket stood frozen like he'd been struck by lightning, eyes wide as saucers. "That sound... That sound is…"

DONG—!

The second toll of the bell seemed to confirm what Cricket already knew deep in his heart.

He remembered Ritter waving him off, telling him to listen for the ringing of the bell.

"You actually did it, you bastard!!! Damn, that's so cool!!"

With a sudden yell, Cricket dove headfirst into the sea, scaring the monkeys half to death.

"Boss is trying to drown himself!!"

Three seconds later, he burst from the water with a dripping wet measuring instrument in hand, laughing like a madman. "It's real! It's not my imagination! Hahaha!!"

Cricket scrambled up the cliffside and stood at the summit, shouting toward the town below: "You hear that, you bastards?! Hahaha! I'm not a liar! My ancestor wasn't a liar!! HAHAHAHAHA!! Listen to that bell!!"

But even that didn't release all the emotion in his chest so he took off running straight toward town.

In the tavern, a bunch of card-playing thugs were startled when a soaking wet blond madman burst in.

Cricket grabbed the bartender by the collar. "Did you hear it?! That's the golden bell! Say it out loud tell me it's real!"

"What the hell is wrong with you—"

DONG—!

The third toll silenced the entire tavern.ic mark added to forehead

The two idiots were still bickering, now pulling each other's hair and faces. Ritter yanked Enel's earlobe; Enel bit down on Ritter's hair.

As Moriah's forehead filled with stress veins

BANG! BANG!

Moriah punched them both.

"You two better watch your damn language! You trying to corrupt Perona or what?!"

"Sorry, Moriah-san!" the two of them crouched in front of him, holding their heads in pain and earnestly apologizing.
