MY SUGAR MUMMY IS A BEAUTIFUL VAMPIRE

Chapter 105: Court hearing 1

Chapter 105: Court hearing 1

Blake's stomach twisted into knots as he was led into the courthouse tunnel and toward the courtroom where his fate would be decided. His hands were cuffed behind his back and he shuffled forward in a line with other defendants. Though he had faith in Rose working to prove his innocence, Blake couldn't stop his mind from racing with worst-case scenarios.

What if there was no evidence to clear his name? What if he was wrongly convicted and spent years, or even his whole life, behind bars?

As they entered the courtroom, Blake scanned the gallery seating and spotted Rose sitting rigidly upright in the front row. Her face was set in stern determination when their eyes met. She gave a subtle nod of encouragement before Blake was ushered into the defense table area. There were already three people seated there - Blake assumed they were his legal team.

A tall man with gray hair stood and extended his hand as Blake took a seat. "Blake Shelton, I'm Gary Wilkins, your defense attorney. This is my associate Dana Park and our investigator Paul Reyes."

Blake shook each of their hands, feeling a small sense of relief at their confident demeanors. "It's nice to meet you all. Thank you for taking my case."

"Of course," Gary said crisply. "We've been working around the clock reviewing the evidence. I don't need to tell you this will be an uphill battle given the accusations, but we won't rest until the truth comes to light."

Before Blake could respond, the bailiff called out, "All rise! The honorable Judge Maria Reynoso presiding."

The courtroom rose as the black-robed judge entered and took her seat, surveying the room sternly. "You may be seated. We are here today for the arraignment hearing of Blake Shelton on charges of attempted murder in the first degree. How does the defendant plead?"

Gary stood and cleared his throat. "Not guilty, your honor. My client vehemently maintains his innocence and we plan to vigorously contest these outrageous charges."

My client is more than willing to adhere to strict conditions including ankle monitoring, travel restrictions, and any other reasonable non-financial bail requirements..."

The judge silenced him by raising her hand. "My decision stands, Mr. Wilkins. You have made your objection which is noted for the record. If you wish to petition the court again on bail, I suggest you bring me compelling new evidence or information to sway my ruling. But for today's purposes, bail is set as stated.

We will schedule further pre-trial proceedings and set a tentative trial date to commence within the next sixty days."

Try as he might to disguise it, Blake's crestfallen expression was obvious to everyone in the courtroom. A seven-figure cash bail meant his detention might continue indefinitely as they awaited trial. And the longer he remained locked up, the more difficult it would be to aid in his own defense and strategizing with his legal team.

Rose met his pained gaze from the gallery and tried her best to convey encouragement and strength. But even she could not mask the dejected slump in her shoulders. For now, the prosecution had struck the first major blow while Blake was essentially left defenseless.

After scheduling some dates for routine pre-trial motions and conferences, Judge Reynoso rapped her gavel one final time. "That concludes today's arraignment. The defendant will be returned to custody pending posting of bail or the commencement of trial. We are adjourned."

Blake stood obediently as his cuffs were re-secured, trying his best not to look as defeated as he felt inside. He exchanged quick words with Gary before being led away. "Just hang in there, Blake. We're not even getting started yet on dismantling their shoddy case. Rose has my word - we won't rest until you're vindicated and set free."

As the guards ushered him down the side tunnel and back toward the jail inmate entrance, Blake stole one last glance over his shoulder at Rose. She met his eyes and pressed her hand to her heart in a show of solidarity and love. If only that embrace could penetrate these jailhouse walls and provide true comfort.

Blake allowed himself to be marched away, forced to place his faith entirely in Rose and his legal team. He would remain in chains for now, but burned with determination to prove his innocence and reclaim his freedom - no matter how long or arduous the fight.
