Chapter 136 - 136: The Howling and the Scythe—A Beastly Sideshow
---
Kent's pace quickened as he retraced his steps through the labyrinth of ruins, his SP harvesting temporarily forgotten in the wake of his newfound goal. Every now and then he'd glance at his system interface, checking his notifications and tallying his SP haul—which, by now, was nearly astronomical. But nothing in the system could comfort him as much as the thought of reuniting with his stubborn, fiery sister.
Back with Nima and her motley crew, the day's heat had grown ever more oppressive. The
At last, with one perfectly timed swing, Nima's soul scythe drew a deep arc across the creature's midsection. The Level‑C beast let out an agonized bellow as it collapsed to its knees, fighting to remain upright. A final, thunderous blow from Lumo sent the beast crashing into a shattered column, its life force flickering like a dying ember.
"Victory!" Nima declared triumphantly. She paused, breathing heavily, as the echo of the beast's final roar faded. The underlings around her cheered raucously, some howling, others clapping their paws and claws, while Auri chirped a high-pitched, celebratory refrain.
Chip! Chip! "We did it. We beat the shit out a strong monster."
Fatty Li, eyes wide and still trembling from the ordeal, looked up at Nima in utter awe. "Boss… you… you are incredible," he managed in a voice that teetered on the brink of admiration and hysteria. With that, his entire demeanor shifted. In that moment, all of his earlier shame and reluctance melted away, replaced by a genuine, irreverent devotion.
Harper Li thinks to himself, "She is so strong. I only a Level-E cultivator. I could never think or dream of beating a beast this strong. But Kent's little sister beat it without any injuries. What level is she? How did she Cultivate?"
Nima's lips curved in a knowing smile. "That's right," she said, patting him on the shoulder. "From this day forward, you're not just some butt pill maker. You're officially part of Nima Nation. And don't you dare forget it. If anyone bully you, inform me. I will stand for you."
Fatty Li blinked, swallowing hard. "What's going on?. I'm her big brother's friend, yet I feel like I can count on her." he was thinking.
He Says out loud, "Okay, Nima." His tone was earnest, and though his earlier bluster remained in the echo of his words, it was now tempered by newfound respect.
Before long, the battle-scarred battleground quieted. Nima surveyed the aftermath, her gaze softening slightly as she regarded her underlings and the fallen beast. "Good work, everyone," she said in a voice that mixed authority with a hint of warmth. "This was a hard fight, but it shows that we're stronger together."
Auri, hovering near Nima's shoulder, chirped in high agreement. Fatty Li, still catching his breath, mumbled a meek, "Thank you, Nima," which drew a round of supportive applause from the surrounding beasts.
Nima then glanced in the direction she knew Kent might be. "Now," she said, more to herself than anyone, "we still haven't found my Big Brother. I'm beginning to wonder… maybe he's picking up girls. That's why he forgot his little sister."
Her tone was playful yet edged with genuine worry. "We need to move out and scout for him," she commanded. "And everyone else, keep your guard up."
The assembled crew grumbled but obeyed, reorganizing themselves into small groups that began moving out through the maze of ruins. Nima, Fatty Li, and Auri led one such group, their footsteps echoing on ancient stone as they advanced toward the next likely spot, an overgrown forest corridor that led directly to the heart of the Ruin Core.
