Mercenary's War

Chapter 2408 - 2384: Boring

Chapter 2408 - 2384: Boring

Before engaging in close combat, Gao Yang’s role is to act as a marksman accompanying the assault team. When it comes to close combat, Gao Yang becomes an assault trooper, and the transition between these two roles is simply a matter of switching guns.Although carrying two guns is indeed cumbersome and inconvenient, being able to fight both at long and short range, suppress the enemy on the move, and provide the only shotgun firepower for Satan at close range truly reflects Gao Yang’s value.

When Satan was less than fifty meters from the Presidential Palace gate, the enemy finally retaliated. However, the density and intensity of the firepower had decreased significantly compared to before the artillery bombardment. While still threatening to Satan, it had diminished to an acceptable level.

The Dagger Assault Team set off first, but before they were halfway, Satan had already approached the gate, leaving the Dagger Assault Team behind.

Gao Yang lay on the ground, raising his gun to quickly search for shootable targets. It didn’t take long for him to spot a target moving quickly, frequently stopping briefly, and continuing to move after shooting.

After observing for a moment, Gao Yang whispered into the intercom, "Enemy visible!"

Almost all light sources had been destroyed, causing both sides to lose their vision, but the enemy who was moving and shooting had behaviors indicating they could see, so they surely had a night vision device.

The reason Special Forces prefer nighttime operations is that during night battles, the side with night vision capabilities while there are no light sources holds a significant advantage.

If both sides have night vision capabilities, the side with better night vision equipment naturally has an even greater advantage. War can best reflect technological gaps to the greatest extent. If one side holds a crushing advantage in night vision, they possess overwhelming combat power.

In every night battle that Satan had experienced, night vision capability was a critical factor in their victories. Except for the battle with Butter Knife, regardless of who the enemy was, Satan always held at least a minor advantage in night vision. After annihilating Butter Knife and seizing their night battle equipment, Satan is definitely one of the strongest teams in the world in terms of night vision capabilities.

Having a particularly outstanding advantage means utilizing that advantage to the fullest.

"Free shooting, eliminate all visible enemies."

Since this was an operation that could turn a rescue into a silencing mission, Gao Yang wasn’t eager to rush in, as this was quite different from a battle meant to completely annihilate the enemy.

He fired at every heat source he saw, ensuring no threat remained outside when they stormed the building, preventing threats from their rear.

After three minutes of continuous shooting, there were no more moving objects on Satan’s attack path. The Dagger Assault Team also moved from the rear to approach Satan. Gao Yang waved his hand and whispered into the intercom, "Cobra, lead Dagger in."

Gao Yang was concerned about landmines or directional mines, as night vision devices couldn’t quickly detect these threats. These hidden dangers could cause casualties, so sending the Dagger Assault Team in first was the prudent choice.

A team from the Dagger Assault Team rushed in, moving directly to the position near the building’s entrance as per Gao Yang’s needs.

No landmines or directional mines were detected, so they could now storm the building’s interior.

For some reason, Gao Yang suddenly felt a sense of boredom.

Fighting battles in the Middle East lacked challenge and pressure. It was a life-and-death ordeal, yet it failed to engage one’s spirit.

Everything was too easy, too dull.

Gao Yang inwardly preferred simple battles because they weren’t very dangerous and didn’t cause casualties. Achieving straightforward victories through simple battles is what every commander hopes for. However, overly simple battles inevitably lead to a sense of complacency.

Extremely dangerous battles tense and excite people, but overly simple battles don’t make one sleepy; they simply fail to arouse any tension.

"Too easy."

Even though he knew he shouldn’t say such things, Gao Yang couldn’t help blurting it out, even beginning to miss those tense and terrifying battles that could scare one witless.

Entering the main entrance of the Presidential Palace behind Li Jinfang, Gao Yang started searching forward.

"Try to capture one alive for questioning."

The Presidential Palace was where the President lived. Yemen had been a typical strongman-controlled state, and Saleh was no longer the President of Yemen. However, unlike Libya, Saleh’s Presidential Palace hadn’t been looted empty, not even the toilets were gone, so it remained particularly luxurious inside.

The external power had long been cut off, showing no lights from outside the Presidential Palace. But once inside, they found that the internal areas were now powered by generators, so it was still quite bright.

"Put out the lights! Put out the lights!"

Following Gao Yang’s command, gunfire echoed as every lit light was shot out.

It was time to conduct a room-by-room search and sweep, but Gao Yang didn’t rush to action. He crouched down, signaled everyone to hide and take cover, then switched the intercom frequency and whispered, "King of Devils calling Black Demon, do you read?"

"Reading you."

Gao Yang heard Tarta’s reply, so he whispered, "We’ve entered the lair. Is the Wolf King in the lair, over?"

Tarta whispered, "Wolf King hasn’t left but isn’t inside the lair; he’s in a lower, nearby building on the right side of the lair. If my judgment is correct, it should be an underground bunker, possibly with tunnels inside. I’m observing the situation and will alert you if there’s any anomaly, over."

Gao Yang felt relieved. Hadi had not left the Presidential Palace, and because Hadi was inside, Lavagani personally led a force to attack. But Hadi wasn’t inside the main building of the Presidential Palace; instead, he was hiding in a relatively safe and concealed place.

Knowing that Hadi absolutely could not be killed or captured alive by the Houthis Armed Forces, Gao Yang didn’t want his actions to lead to Hadi’s death. Moreover, if Hadi was in this mansion, so would his bodyguards be, making the ensuing battles much more complex.

Since Hadi wasn’t here, neither were the bodyguards, simplifying matters. However, this also meant Lavagani was likely not here either. Nevertheless, since they were already inside, they had to sweep through before leaving; it wouldn’t make sense to exit immediately after entering.
