Chapter 85 He fought for me
Chapter 85 He fought for me
Ethan had no idea what or why but he screamed like a teenage girl who just saw a cockroach in the bathroom. "KILL it! Kill it now!"
The remaining insectoids and the two demons did not need to be told twice. They used this opportunity to pummel the bastard and be done with it once and for all.
Ethan's ragged breath filled the cavern as the hulking demon finally collapsed, its massive form crashing against the bloodstained stone with a resounding thud. The red glow of its berserk magic flickered, sputtering like a dying flame before vanishing completely.
It was over.
The cavern was eerily silent now, save for the exhausted panting of Ethan and his battered minions. The remaining insectoids twitched their mandibles, their bodies trembling from the exertion. His spiders, slimes, and demons stood motionless.
Ethan himself could barely stand. His entire body screamed in pain, his ribs felt like they had been cracked in multiple places, and his vision blurred with exhaustion. He was covered in dirt, sweat, and blood—both his and the demon's.
But none of that mattered.
They had won.
Ethan's grip on the rock finally loosened, and it tumbled to the ground with a dull clatter. He staggered forward, staring at the demon's lifeless body. This thing had been unstoppable—a wall of pure destruction that had pushed him to his absolute limits.
And yet, he had killed it.
Not with a grand finishing move. Not with some legendary technique. Not even with his dagger. But with sheer, unrelenting desperation. His gaze then landed on the rock that he tossed away. His eyes widened slightly when he saw that it was not really a rock but an ore fragment.
"This... this thing is a Blood-Fury Brute." His voice was grim, as though saying the name alone sent a chill down his spine. "An enraged berserk-class demon. Even a squad of elite knights would struggle to bring one down."
"Rutgard..." Lyra weakly mumbled. "Save him. Rutgard... needs help."
"Lady Lyra, please don't strain yourself. Drink this first." The knight kneeling beside her quickly pulled out a small vial of glowing blue liquid from his belt pouch and gently pressed it to her lips. "It's a high-grade potion, my lady. It will stabilize you."
Lyra's fingers twitched as she weakly tried to push the vial away. Her hazy, unfocused eyes flickered toward the cavern entrance. "No... You don't understand... He—he saved me..." Her voice cracked, barely above a whisper. "Ethan Rutgard... He—"
The taller knight in blue plate armor stiffened at the name. His sharp gaze snapped toward her, and for the first time since stepping into the cavern, his expression darkened further.
"Rutgard?" His voice was low, dangerous. "Are you certain?"
Lyra's breathing was ragged, but she nodded weakly. "He fought... he didn't run... the demon was killing him but he didn't run... he did not leave my side for one minute... he..." Tears slipped down her face, mixing with the dirt and exhaustion clinging to her skin.
"He fought for me," she whispered, voice trembling. "When everyone else would have left... he fought. I am alive because of him..."
