Chapter 51 Catacomb Brawler? (edited)
Sighing, Lillian raised her lantern. (2)
Turning around, she scoped out her surroundings in hopes of finding the Catacomb Dwellers.
Lillian then suddenly felt vibrations passed through the ground behind her, 'Is it their fight?' Lillian thought, assuming it was from Marionette's battle with the larger Catacomb Dweller.
'What is that thing...? Could it be a variant of a higher tier?' Lillian pondered.
Suddenly, the feeling of being watched appeared once again. Her eyes twitched, believing that it could be the two Catacomb Dwellers hiding in the darkness.
Turning around, she was then suddenly faced with a thick wall of carapace.
"Huh?"
Lillian glanced up, staring at the face of a Catacomb Dweller much similar to the one Marionette dragged away.
The Catacomb Dweller raised one of its thick arms and swung it towards her, curling its hooked appendages like it was forming a fist.
Lillian, alarmed, stepped back, watching as its powerful arm hit the ground, cracking it.
"Eh? It cracked the ground...?"
Lillian then widened her eyes as she watched it charge at her, wildly swinging its arms. (2)
After ducking under a swing, she raised and swiped her blade at its carapace.
As her blade skidded off its exoskeleton, with the momentum, she rolled to the side.
Getting up, she stared as it patted the area she attacked, raising its hand and revealing not even a scratch in its shell.
"That's... rather troublesome..." Lillian outwardly thought with a grim expression. (2)
Could it be she didn't swing it with enough force and momentum?
Rather than going in again and risking having her head cracked and crushed under its fist like an exploding watermelon, she decided to attack from afar.
Beside her head, a droplet manifested, morphing into a sphere before shooting at the Catacomb Dweller at high speeds, crashing into its chest.
The bullet made of water ran down its body in narrow streams.
Reflected in Lillian's eyes, the Catacomb Dweller threw another one of its punches that caused her arm to shake.
Lillian, with a bend of her knees, ducked under it, feeling the wind from it brushing against the top of her head.
'Let's see if this trick will work again!'
Lillian twisted her wrist up, stabbing the tip of her rapier through the thin gaps between its segments.
Drip... Drip... Drip...
She watched as blood ran down the edges of her blade. Its red blood dripped to the ground in small waves.
Just as Lillian was about to twist her body around in hopes of being able to cleave through it, she was lifted up by the throat by one of its smaller arms.
The Catacomb Dweller stared down at her with an indifferent expression, raising her head towards its sharp mandibles.
Lillian wiggled her body, clawing at its hand. She stared as her dreadfully slow approach to its mandible was happening.
Racking her mind for ideas, she suddenly flashed her hand towards its face, manifesting a drill of water and shooting it at its unprotected face.
She watched as its head shot back, dripping in blood, releasing her from its strong grip and falling back, crashing against the ground.
Thud...!
[You have slain a Savage Gnarl, Catacomb Brawler]
Lillian fell on her side, breathing heavily, "Damn...! Way too close... got a bit nervous there..." Lillian outwardly thought, calming down at a surprising rate. (2)
Realising that her hands were empty, she sat up, looking around and staring at the lantern lying beside her on its side, still continuing to glow and keep away the dark.
She sighed in relief and looked towards the collapsed body of what is now identified as the Catacomb Brawler. "You're just a Savage tier, huh? But stronger due to that second shell you made since you're a Gnarl, right?" (2)
Lillian stumbled over to it, reaching her hand towards the hilt of her rapier, which was still lodged in its abdomen.
That was until...
