The ten gods sat in their high seats, silent and still, like statues. In this heavy silence, an inexplicable tension hung in the air, elusive and unidentifiable.
It felt as though this strained stillness had endured for a decade when, suddenly, a brilliant light illuminated the center of the room, engulfing everything in its radiance.
The light resembled a sun—dazzling and white—radiating an intense heat so oppressive it seemed capable of melting everything within moments. But just as the gods began to feel its fiery wrath, the heat vanished, replaced by an unnatural cold that seeped into the marrow of existence.
The air crystallized, the surroundings began to freeze, and the frost spread swiftly, painting the world in icy stillness. Then, in another instant, the phenomenon shifted again. A crushing gravitational force emanated from the light, pulling everything and everyone toward its core.
Then, in another moment, shadows began to emerge, coiling and writhing around the brilliant light. These shadows grew, consuming the radiance entirely, as though the light itself was being devoured.
The darkness was chaotic, without form or purpose, an erratic void that seemed to embody everything and nothing at once, a mere vessel for everything.@@@@
Despite its overwhelming nature, the ten gods remained eerily composed. Only the faintest twitch in their muscles betrayed any reaction to the phenomenon.
"You know our realm is being invaded by the otherworldly, and yet you sit here in this lazy stupor," a woman's deep voice echoed, reverberating from every corner of the chamber. It seemed omnipresent.
"We've already sent the invitation. They should be arriving soon."
The giant god with four arms and a third eye on his forehead spoke in a deep voice.
"Oh? What if they don't come, then?"
"Well, it has been predicted that most of them will come."
One of his arms pointed at the smallest god by his side, his eyes narrowing.
"Hmm?"
The god he pointed at was the smallest and thinnest of them all, wearing a cold expression on his face and rotating golden beads in his hands. A crown rested on his head, and a seemingly divine light emanated from his body.
"What is it?" Ray asked, his gaze still fixed elsewhere, not even sparing a glance at the creature.
"We're heading to the invitation, and we'd like you to join us," the squirrel replied, its voice calm yet purposeful.
"...Why are you even going?" Ray asked.
"There are, at most, twelve gods in this universe," the squirrel explained. "For corruption to take hold, this place is unimaginably vast. If we stick to our natural rate, it'll take an entire starfall to achieve anything meaningful. But if we kill them, the process will accelerate dramatically."
The squirrel tilted its head, then began to morph. Its small frame stretched and twisted until it transformed into a miniature squid wearing tiny glasses perched delicately on its tentacles.
"I am not going," Ray said, shaking his head.
"Very well, then," the squid replied, bowing like a gentleman. With that, it vanished into a puff of air, leaving behind only the faintest trace of its presence.
Ray leaned back in his throne, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Fools," he muttered under his breath. "Even if you manage to kill some gods, you cannot truly destroy them without severing their fate."
In his heart, Ray had already concluded the operation would fail. It was obvious.
He had tested the power of the Demon God himself. It was a force beyond comprehension, greater than even the combined strength of the ten peak universal beings of his universe.
Their strength didn't lie in individuality but in unity. But, for these gods who couldn't truly die, killing them outright was simply an impossibility.
"Eventually, they'll grow exhausted," Ray said, shaking his head. "But that's not the main reason I won't be joining the battle."
He closed his eyes briefly, sensing his surroundings. The mutation energy coursing through him was constantly merging with the Qi in his body, creating something entirely new—something he had neither seen nor heard of before.
It made his heart tremble with an unfamiliar excitement.
"And Fate Energy," Ray murmured, glancing around with a faint smile.
He wasn't alone in his ambitions. He had countless followers, not just here but within his personal dimension as well. Their emotions, their belief in him—if harnessed correctly—could become a terrifying source of power.
That's why Ray had chosen to delve into cultivation....
