Chapter 1739 - 949: Approaching the Giant Tree (2)
This balance scale was different from an ordinary one; it seemed to be constantly Devouring the light around it.At the same time, the two ends of the scale were not identical.
The beam on the right was twice as long as the one on the left; clearly, there was nothing placed on either pan, yet the scale remained in perfect equilibrium.
It gave off a distinctly discordant feeling.
Tarinda held the scale up with her right hand, closed her eyes, and seemed to be sensing something.
Meanwhile, Lis did not sit and wait either.
There were many possible causes for the predicament before them; he needed to quickly find the correct way to break through.
After all, his time was limited.
Whether it was the time limit on how long he could exert Demigod-level Strength, or the time Cain could hold off Demogorgon.
So for Lis and Tarinda, they had to make the most of every moment.
Lis raised his right hand, and his index finger lightly tapped toward the Space in front of him.
The Space before Lis warped slightly with his movement.
Yet after twisting for a brief moment, the Space before Lis calmed again like the surface of water.
Lis frowned slightly, then shook his head and said:
"It’s not a change in Space either."
Just then, Tarinda opened her eyes.
The scale before her underwent a slight change.
On the pan on the right side of the scale, there appeared an indescribable radiance, exuding a distorted aura.
As this radiance appeared, the scale began slowly tilting to the right, and finally settled completely.
Tarinda breathed out softly, as though the scale before her had been exerting considerable pressure on her.
Then Tarinda looked at Lis and said:
"This abnormality is the influence of the [Chaos] Rules within the Abyss Rules."
"This should be the original residual influence of the twelfth layer, but it seems to have undergone some change, which is why we didn’t notice it earlier."
"[Chaos] Rule Power?"
Lis nodded, but his gaze fell on the scale in Tarinda’s hand.
This scale actually possessed the ability to identify Rule Power?
If they had failed to notice it, the only possibility was Rule Power of Divine Rank.
Could this black scale be a Half-God Artifact, or even a Divine Artifact?
Yet Lis sensed no trace of Divine Power from this scale at all.
Although quite curious, Lis still withdrew his gaze.
This was not the time to concern himself with that.
"If it’s the [Chaos] Rules, that will be troublesome."
After putting away the scale, Tarinda looked at Lis and said:
"It’s not that the trouble is great, but it will waste a lot of time."
"Do you have any good ideas?"
"I’ll give it a try."
Lis nodded and looked toward the giant tree in the distance.
The [Chaos] Rules were one of the core Rules of the Endless Abyss.
And what appeared here should be one particular manifestation of the [Chaos] Rule Power.
Its main effect was to disrupt the sense of position and direction of Lis and Tarinda.
Although the two of them had been moving toward the direction of the giant tree, because of the [Chaos] Rules, the directions in which they advanced might have been constantly shifting.
They clearly felt that they were walking forward, yet in reality they might have been moving away or circling around.
According to Tarinda, this was Rule Power left over from the former twelfth layer.
Moreover, it seemed to have grown much stronger, which was why Lis and Tarinda had failed to notice it before.
Lis could almost be certain that this was Demogorgon’s handiwork.
And now, any perception might be altered by the [Chaos] Rule Power.
At the same time, because the Rank of this [Chaos] Rule Power was quite high, Lis and Tarinda had not detected it previously.
Lis quickly focused his attention on the bizarre mist before them.
If they wanted to pass through here and reach the center of the twelve Holy Trees where Mr. Stephens was, they first had to overcome this dilemma before them.
He stood quietly before this bank of mist, watching as the dense, almost tangible fog churned and shifted.
After a moment, Lis slowly raised his right hand, his movements steady and composed.
His right hand hovered in midair, as though feeling for something.
There was no visible change around them; the air remained as still and quiet as before, yet Tarinda, standing to the side, sharply sensed a hint of anomaly.
She felt that Lis’s right hand seemed to be holding some formless yet peculiar Strength.
That Strength was like a lodestone, drawing her in, filling her with a deep, instinctive longing and desire.
This urge was like a surging tide, slamming again and again against the bulwarks of her reason, making her almost unable to resist drawing closer.
What is that?
Tarinda was inwardly startled.
Even when she had once grasped the Star Realm Power, she had never felt anything like this.
It seemed that Lis still harbored many secrets.
Perhaps this was one of the mysteries behind his becoming the first Demigod Arcanist?
However, Tarinda knew full well that she could not disturb Lis at this moment.
Relying on her formidable will, she forced herself to suppress her impulses, standing quietly in place, her gaze fixed intently on Lis’s every move.
Lis closed his eyes slightly and began to draw upon the Strength of his [Wisdom] Domain.
In an instant, a formless wave spread outward from him, slowly radiating in all directions.
The power of the [Wisdom] Domain rippled outward like waves, gradually extending into the misty region before him.
He used his heart to feel the Rule Power permeating the surroundings.
These Rule Powers were like invisible strands, woven together.
Among them, however, was one most distinct thread of Rule Power, dominating this region before him.
After a moment, a faint, almost imperceptible look of delight flashed across Lis’s face.
He had successfully seized upon the traces of the [Chaos] Rule Power.
So he had been right!
Lis focused his Concentration entirely on sensing this Strength.
His thoughts whirred like rapidly turning gears, and with the aid of the [Wisdom] Domain, he continuously analyzed and comprehended the essence of the [Chaos] Rules.
He had already grasped the [Chaos] Rules through his Vampire Avatar.
However, the degree to which he had mastered the [Chaos] Rules was quite shallow, far from comparable to the [Chaos] Rule Power before him, which had been manipulated by Demogorgon.
As time went by, his understanding of the [Chaos] Rules gradually deepened.

At the same time, the true form of the region before him gradually surfaced in his mind.
After a while, Lis still did not open his eyes, but his body began to move.
He walked straight ahead, his steps firm, as though everything before him lay entirely within his grasp.
Seeing this, Tarinda hurriedly followed close behind Lis.
As Lis advanced through the mist, he did not simply move in a straight line.
He frequently changed direction—sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right, and at times he even walked backward.
To the eye, it seemed utterly without pattern, as though he were wandering aimlessly.
Yet Tarinda was astonished to discover that despite Lis’s winding and bizarre route, their distance to that giant tree within the mist was steadily shrinking.
Tarinda marveled inwardly, but did not interrupt Lis’s actions.
Before long, the two of them arrived beneath the giant tree.
Lis opened his eyes and saw the extremely rugged giant tree before him.
This giant tree was colossal; standing beside it, one could not see its crown at all.
The giant tree had no branches or leaves, only a bare black trunk twisting and spreading, its surface covered in patterns like pulsing veins; between the tree-rings flowed a dark red liquid, emitting a faint glow.
Just seeing this giant tree, Lis heard a wave of extremely shrill howls echoing in his mind.
The sound seemed to be calling out to something, yet also like a vicious curse hurled at someone.
Lis could not understand the meaning of these howls at all; he only felt as if a great bell were rolling back and forth in his mind, leaving him dizzy and painfully nauseated.
Was this the lingering roar of the Divine that had once died upon the Holy Tree?
Lis rubbed his temples, speculating.
His mind had been tempered countless times; a soul impact of this level could not affect his actions.
Tarinda was the same; though her face had turned slightly pale, the light-blue gemstone earrings she wore shone with a gentle glow, and she likewise was not greatly affected by it.
