Chapter 162 Mom, should we call the police? Part 2

Betty didn't even glance at the caller ID before answering the phone.

"Hello, may I ask who is speaking?" The line connected, but silence hung heavy on both ends. It was only then that Betty looked down to see the caller ID, which showed an anonymous number.

A flicker of confusion crossed Betty's face. Anonymous calls usually meant something out of the ordinary. Who would call her from a hidden number? Driven by a mix of hope and anxiety, she initiated the conversation.

"Is this Betty?" Finally, a voice emerged from the other end, cutting through the silence of the room. I could hear it clearly through the surveillance.

However, the voice was chillingly cold and eerily familiar, though I couldn't immediately place it.

"I am Betty. May I know who this is?" The confusion wasn't just on my end; Betty too was taken aback to hear a woman's voice, which sounded utterly foreign to her.

"I once thought you could make him happy, so I stepped aside. But now you've hurt him, and while he might forgive you, I won't..." After a pause, the woman spoke again, deepening the mystery for Betty. At that moment, it clicked for me – this was Luna, the woman who had saved me just days ago, her voice as cold as ice.

"Who are you? What are you talking about?" Betty's voice trembled with mounting tension, unable to grasp the identity of the caller or the meaning behind her words.

"Just open the door now, don't wait for us to break it down..." Suddenly, two voices filled the room—one from the phone and another seemingly from just outside the door.

I could hear it through the surveillance, and so could Betty.

Instead of calling for help, Betty naively rushed to the door and flung it open.

"My husband is there... uh..." Before she could finish her sentence, a cloud of smoke billowed from the barely opened door, and Betty collapsed to the floor, unconscious.

Two women then entered, lifted Betty, and carried her out. The door shut behind them, and for a fleeting moment, I saw a figure clad in white, her expression as cold and impassive as the winter snow, watching the scene unfold.

The door closed, and silence engulfed the room. I quickly fast-forwarded the surveillance footage. Days turned into nights, but no one else entered. I fast-forwarded to the moment I returned home, realizing that Betty had been taken by Luna four days before my arrival, while I had left Luna's place less than three days prior. It dawned on me then why Betty had disappeared—Luna had taken her, and likely Michael too.

Despite Luna's beauty and excellence, my heart belonged to Betty, and I felt unworthy of someone like Luna.

Sitting on Luna's bed, I noticed my neatly folded clothes on the nightstand.

Glancing anxiously at my watch, I worried about Betty and Michael's safety. After a tense 16-minute wait, the door burst open, and Luna rushed in, breathless and a stark contrast to the composed figure who had taken Betty.

" I dropped everything and rushed back as soon as I heard you were here. Have you eaten anything?" Luna asked, panting and smiling.

"Where are my wife and son?" I cut to the chase, ignoring her question...

Upon hearing my question, the excitement on Luna's face vanished, replaced by a complex mix of hesitation and struggle. She stared at me, her expression filled with surprise, and after a long pause, she sighed deeply and looked away, unable to meet my gaze.

"How did you find out?" Luna finally murmured, her head still lowered.

Her response was an indirect admission that Michael and Betty were indeed in her custody. I was taken aback; I had expected her to deny everything, but she didn't.

She seemed genuinely surprised that I knew, probably unaware that I had installed surveillance at home and had seen everything.

"You've admitted it! Are they really with you?" Even though Luna had indirectly confessed, I needed absolute confirmation.

"Yes, they are with me. I don't want to lie to you..." Luna then lifted her head, her eyes filled with a sorrowful look that I found disconcerting. Was she a person of dual natures? Cold and distant to others, yet seemingly fragile in front of me? I wondered which persona was the real her.

"What have you done to them?" Now certain that Michael and Betty were indeed with Luna, I grabbed her arm urgently.

"They did this to you, and you still care so much about them? Is it worth it?" Luna's voice cracked, whether from the pain of my grip or the emotional sting, I couldn't tell. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she held them back.

"Where are they?" My mind was solely focused on Betty and Michael's safety. I didn't answer Luna's question or even notice the tears in her eyes as I pressed her again, desperate for an answer.
