Chapter 148 In my dreams, I felt a woman climb into my bed Part2
When the morning light barely touched the horizon, I woke up unusually early, perhaps due to the early night and the turmoil in my heart.
I felt a weight on my body, a familiar sensation that slowly brought me back to consciousness.
As my eyes fluttered open to the dim dawn, I realized an arm was draped over me, a scene so reminiscent of how Betty used to sleep, always clinging to me like this.
Every morning, I would wake to find her arm on me.
Could it be that the dream was over?
But as I turned to look at the woman beside me, my heart skipped a beat.
It wasn't Betty; it was Luna, a stranger.
I was still trapped in that "dream."
Luna was holding me close in her sleep, and I couldn't help but startle at the realization.
I hadn't drunk too much last night; surely, I hadn't lost control.
My clothes were still on, and so were Luna's, not a piece removed, just tucked into my bed and holding me.
My movement upon waking was significant, yet Luna showed no signs of waking, her arm instinctively tightening around me.
Observing her peaceful slumber, I felt reluctant to disturb her.
Time seemed to stand still as I pondered our situation.
Eventually, Luna stirred, shifting closer before finally opening her eyes.
Her gaze was blurry at first, confused, then gradually cleared.
She looked at me, a soft warmth flickering in her eyes, then down at her arm around me, a shy blush coloring her cheeks, yet she remained composed.
"Sorry about that, I was just sitting by your bed and must have fallen asleep..." Luna murmured, rubbing her eyes sheepishly.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I can't be the man who lives off a woman's favor. I've no desire for power or status at someone else's expense. My heart is free of attachments now; I just want to live life on my own terms."
Her lips quivered slightly, a mix of shock and hurt flashing across her face.
It was perhaps the first time she had faced rejection, a bitter taste for someone accustomed to getting what she wanted.
"Can't you make room in your heart for someone else?" she asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you," I replied, trying to soften the blow.
"Just let me stay here without any strings attached, okay? Let me do what I need to do."
Respecting my wishes, Luna nodded slowly, her face a mask of reluctant acceptance.
"Okay... let's go have breakfast first. We can sort the rest out later."
As I got up to find my clothes, I realized they were nowhere to be found.
Luna returned to the room, her arms laden with shopping bags.
"I bought you some new clothes," she announced, placing the bags on the bed.
"What about my old clothes?" I asked, suspecting that the new clothes she bought were probably very expensive, another form of attachment I was keen to avoid.
"Your old clothes were dirty and torn, so I had the servants throw them out," she explained.
I could imagine the rough night that had left my clothes in such a state, the scuffles and the dirt.
I declined her offer and dressed myself in the new clothes she provided.
As I adjusted my outfit, Luna knelt to straighten my pant legs, her actions careful and considerate.
When she looked up, her eyes met mine, and for a moment, there was a silent understanding between us.
As I walked out of the room, I noticed the housemaids staring in disbelief, their expressions a mix of shock and curiosity at the scene unfolding before them.
