Chapter 128 Ocean Biome
Chapter 128 Ocean Biome
We were enjoying our time going through the dungeons. We were just too strong to find them challenging anymore. All of us had the same stats as someone with an epic-rank class, except they tend to focus on a single stat, while my bonuses applied to every stat. It meant we were technically weaker than an epic dungeon group, but only on paper. All of us were well-rounded, and that meant something when it came to survival. As strong as an epic-grade assassin was, a wave of lightning would still fry them from the inside out before they could do anything about it, while every single one of my wives would survive because of the endurance I gave them. It meant that even if a group of epic-ranked adventurers was travelling through these dungeons, they wouldn’t be as relaxed as us, and the fatigue would slowly be building up instead of our group treating it as a short vacation from our real work.
“Oh, look at that waterfall; it reminds me of the one we had sex in that you made a landmark.” God, that was so long ago. I really miss those times when all we were focused on was getting stronger. We were almost caught having sex by another group, and that was when we found the alchemist's hideout.
I asked. “You think there’s a hidden room behind that waterfall?” Tems smiled at me before running toward the cliff edge while yelling. “Only one way to tell.” She jumped the dozens of feet as she dove into the water. She didn’t come up until she was halfway across the little pond the waterfall had created. Another rocky outcrop where the waterfall came from, then it developed back into a river and kept going.
Thankfully, this area wasn’t ruined by the clusters of undead we were finding ever since we killed that undead giant. She waved back at us before yelling. “No hidden cave, but this water tastes salty.” My eyebrows furrowed at what she said. We were hundreds of miles from the coast, and I know for a fact that the water upstream is freshwater.
Jumping down as well, I got a mouthful and could tell this wasn’t just salty water; this was water that housed ocean life inside it. How? Where did this mini ocean come from? The only thing that made this make sense was… Another dungeon gardener made it. This very well could have been an old safe zone or landmark. It could have been made specifically to help supply ocean fish to the southern part of the continent.
But it had gone unattended so long, in such a deep part of the dungeons, that it had been forgotten by time. I looked down, seeing all the exotic fish I had never seen before… Before noticing a gigantic fish heading toward Tems. “Tems! You got incoming!” She spotted it before I did and was already preparing for it as it approached her. The fish was big, easily a miniboss, even higher level than one in the desert dungeon we had gone to before. One that killed a half dozen knights, and we were in the miniboss's element.
It moved to eat her as she charged the rare skill she got when she upgraded her class. The fish's mouth was wide enough to swallow her whole… But her attack was powerful enough to almost cleave the gigantic fish in half. It only dawned on me after the fact that she not only killed a miniboss in a single strike, but aimed to cut a part of it off as she came up with the smaller part, smiling. “I got dinner!”
That just proved that this was a literal vacation for us; even if another dungeon went berserk, it would be light work to fix the problem for us at this point in time. We bunkered down there for the night because I wanted to explore more of the ocean-like pond to see if it held any other surprises. Most of my wives were swimming while a few explored the area, and others prepared the campsite for the night.
There were tropical fish along with octopi and shellfish. I had to make a mental note to swing by here to resupply on fish and shells before we went home, because I heard that crushing them is a good source of calcium for your field that will ward off slugs as well. Slugs weren’t a problem for my fields, because I raised chickens and ducks, but the calcium to raise the pH in some of my other fields might be helpful, and if not, I could sell it to other farmers who needed it.
Even though the part Tems sliced off was small, it was still enough for us to make pounds of meat for every single person to eat, plus an equal amount for fish jerky to add to our food stores. Most of the miniboss was left behind, either being eaten by the other ocean wildlife or reabsorbed by the dungeon, which would speed up the miniboss' respawn time.
It was starting to get close to nighttime, but I was surprised that all of my wives had brought swimwear along with them. But it turned out it was Sarah who brought everyone's outfit. We sat on the beach, cooking the fish and eating while enjoying the surprisingly warm weather, as if the ocean water even shifted the temperature of the surroundings. It very well could be the way it was designed that it stayed so warm. I’d have to figure out how it was done at some point, because making one closer or in another part of the country would be incredible for creating hard-to-come-by produce.
I had never even seen a beach before, but it still felt nostalgic somehow. Perhaps the warm weather and fire cooking meat brought some of those feelings from my childhood, but I was happy with the feeling it gave me. I really should go back and check on the church I was raised in, maybe see how the city I was brought up in is doing.
Olivia and Delilah had decided to build a realistic sand castle, and were doing such a good job that it might have been more structurally stable than some of the cave homes I made for the safe zones. Converting this entire area into a landmark was an obvious no-brainer for the future. Just having a good place to get fish for us to eat was worth some of my wives making the trip a few times a year.
Before we went to sleep, we all decided to go for a night swim, and Sarah convinced us to do something called skinny dipping, which was just swimming completely naked. We played and splashed until the sun went down, and then made our way into the literal sand castle that they made for us. It had a working drawbridge and moat. I wondered how they had built it so quickly, but it only caught my attention for a moment as I noticed the playful mood everyone was still in.
That night was spent making just as vigorous love as the previous few; ever since we started clearing these dungeons, we’ve been fucking nonstop. The further south we went, the more undead we were coming across, and it was only a matter of time before we had to take the threat seriously. Everyone knew that, and I think that is why they were trying to enjoy this calm before the storm before we travelled into it.
We didn’t have to do this; we could leave at any time, go and tell the king, and he’d prepare the army to fight back the undead, but we didn’t. For some reason, we all knew it wasn’t the right decision. An army fighting against the undead would only feed their own numbers. It had to be us to take them out; otherwise, our own allies could become the enemies who overwhelm us.
“Morning.” I slapped Cherry on her ass as she made food in the sand kitchen of the castle. I was still marvelling at the craftsmanship of the castle as she and Roka made everyone breakfast. Still surprised at how peaceful my life was, even deep inside the middle of a dungeon, we could sleep and eat calmly as if nothing bad could happen to us.
