Chapter 253 Emergency at the outpost

Chapter 253 Emergency at the outpost

Uriel woke up the next morning hoping to finally have some free time for himself, only to have his plans ruined by a new crisis. All of his friends were gathered in the living room waiting for Uriel to show up.

"Is there really nothing you can do? We have a lot of it and I only want to use a little bit." Medusa begged Nika who remained unconvinced.

"No, we have a lot of ore, but not refined metal. Besides, we need to pay our debts first."

"Uriel, tell her something."

"I'll side with Nika on this, it would be a waste of money."

The extruding process was too slow for Medusa who was dying to craft weapons and gadgets out of the precious metal.

"Come on, Uriel, you promised you would help me find the whereabouts of the Air spirit people." Sam pouted.

"Uhm, buy me a plushie." Luna tugged on Uriel's shirt.

"Is asking for peace and quiet too much!? I'm done." Uriel stormed out of the headquarters. The only thing he wanted was to get away from all the nagging for a few days, but even in college Sam would still be able to get on his case. Besides, it was a weekend which meant there was nothing for him to do on campus.

He took out his cellphone trying to keep himself busy and a message popped on the screen as soon as he unlocked it.

'Emergency at the lost city outpost, only ascended and above allowed.'

Uriel messaged Professor Charlie without missing a beat asking her if he could join in, to which she replied with a provocative selfie of her giving thumbs up while riding on top of an ATV. That sort of reply, albeit unconventional, served its purpose in a swift and effective manner.

Had he encountered some cryptids to hunt or anything to do would have been great, but after half an hour of walking by himself he was already getting tired of his peace and quiet. Because of this, Uriel started sprinting as soon as he saw the watchtower in the distance.

When he was about to reach the location, a gunshot echoed in the distance and Uriel's enhanced senses allowed him to jump back before the bullet clashed against the ground in front of him.

'Is this an assassination attempt?' Uriel inwardly thought as he used his mystical sense to try and detect where did the shot came from but that proved to be needless, as the culprit waved at him from atop the ATV parked a few blocks distance from him.

"Why did you try to kill me?" Uriel glared at Professor Charlie as soon as he reached the ATV.

"Kill you? From that distance I could have trimmed your eyelashes, It was a warning shot." Professor Charlie replied puffing out her chest.

"Warn me about what?"

"We tried to make contact with the watchtower but no one replied. It means that either they lost their comms or..."

"They're dead, they're all dead." A young girl sobbed while covering her mouth.

"Well, that's a possibility, but we can't afford to lose the outpost so our mission remains the same."

"No way, I want to go back to the city. I'll tell my father to fund an incursion or something, just escort me back to the city!" A young hunter who clearly came from money begged.

"We're rangers, and it is our duty to..."

"I'm not a ranger, I just asked to become your pupil last year because I thought you were hot!" The young hunter cried.

"This is the second time you interrupt me, I'll forgive you because you said I was hot, but there won't be a third time." Charlie didn't raise her voice, but her voice lacked her usual lighthearted tone which brought chills to the two second year students.
