Chapter 42 A Fallen Called Quinn
Chapter 42 A Fallen Called Quinn
"This here will be your room."
"Room number 0!" The boisterous voice of Sir Drakoria rang out as Ryuk looked at the door right in front of him with gritted teeth.
The man was still laying his heavy arms on Ryuk's shoulder, and he felt his knees losing their strength with every passing second.
STEP, STEP
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps rang out from the side, causing Ryuk and Sir Drakoria to turn their heads in the direction of the noise.
They found a scrawny-looking Fallen boy with spectacles on his face walking toward them.
The boy had a lost expression, so much so that he didn't even realize they were standing there until he was about two meters away. He suddenly stopped, stumbled back, and fell on his butt.
'Who is this weird one?' Ryuk thought dumbly, the same thought running through Sir Drakoria's mind.
"Hahaha! Quinn! What good timing!" Sir Drakoria said as he finally left Ryuk's shoulder alone and grabbed the boy on the floor, pulling him up to his feet.
"Um, um, how are you doing... Sir Drakoria..." the boy said, wincing under Sir Drakoria's firm shoulder pinch.
He was the epitome of timidity and shyness.
"Look at this, Quinn!" Sir Drakoria said as he pointed to Ryuk.
"From today on, Ryuk here will be your roommate."
"WHAT!!!?"
The boy exclaimed in shock as he turned to look at Ryuk who still had half his swollen face, and a riased eyebrow.
"But, but..." Quinn tried to argue, but the Sir Drakoria's stare overwhelmed him, making him ultimately swallow his objections.
"Ok." He eventually agreed.
"I want you to show him around the academy, the training halls, and the cafeteria. Something a roommate should do for another, you get it?" Sir Drakoria said to Quinn, who nodded meekly.
"Good." The man said as he slowly stepped back, waving at both of them.
"Thank you..." he said timidly.
Ryuk looked at him for a while, wondering if the guy was messing with him, but he seemed completely genuine.
One could say it was the first time Ryuk was interacting so closely with a boy his own age.
Most people in Grade E were adults, and to see Quinn acting like this numbed him for a while.
It was almost unreal that someone could be so dumb-sounding and looking.
'I wonder what happened to him...' Ryuk thought to himself as he turned his attention to the wardrobe at the side.
There was a single wardrobe: one door was locked, and the other was open.
"The locked door is where I put my things. If you want it, I can..." Quinn said, rushing to look for the key to the wardrobe as Ryuk shook his head.
"I'll just use the other space in the wardrobe. What difference does it make to the one on the right?" he asked once more as Quinn halted in his steps, staring weirdly at Ryuk, who opened up the other wardrobe and began filling it with his clothes.
A hint of appreciation flashed in Quinn's eyes, but he soon noticed Ryuk's clothes from his back and raised an eyebrow.
"Are those clothes or rags?" he asked as Ryuk turned his head to him, then remembered.
'Damn, I'm in Grade B. I forgot the clothes of Grade E are shabby compared to normal...'
These were actually clothes that Old Jack had packed for Ryuk, and the majority were oversized since Ryuk was not too tall.
Besides, they were shabby-looking, something Ryuk would never have known until he came to Grade B and saw the normal clothes others were wearing.
If he wore these out, he would probably soon become a tool of mockery. But what choice did he have?
As if he could read Ryuk's thoughts, Quinn offered:
"You know, there's a store nearby where you can get new clothes and shoes for free?" Quinn said as Ryuk's ears perked up.
"New clothes and shoes, for free!? Are you tripping?" Ryuk asked as Quinn shook his head.
"There really is. Just a few minutes from here. Wanna check it out? I can also use the opportunity to show you around the place..."
