Chapter 49
C49 – Fish Dragon
Within the Fire Grounds, Zhou Mu sprinted with abandon, paying no mind to the fiend beasts that lurked around him.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
His sword qi whirled through the air, slaying the fire-attuned fiend beasts before they could even approach.
Jin Zi’s combat prowess was overwhelming. Ordinary beasts of ninth rank and below, elite beasts of seventh rank and below, and even leader beasts of fifth rank and below were dispatched in an instant.
Leaders at the sixth and seventh ranks would be grievously wounded, robbed of their will to fight.
The disparity in strength was a vast gulf that could not be crossed.
It seemed the only purpose of ordinary fiend beasts was to serve as fodder, and even at the tenth rank, they held little value.
But was that really the case?
Not at all!
In a conversation with his second uncle, Zhou Mu uncovered numerous secrets about level ten Animal Whisperers and tenth rank fiend beasts.
For many, reaching level ten as an Animal Whisperer was a lifelong pursuit’s culmination.
Yet, to the truly formidable, becoming a level ten Animal Whisperer was merely the start.
At this juncture, Animal Whisperers earned the right to elevate a spirit animal’s quality.
A spirit animal contracted at a lower level could ascend step by step to the status of lord, king, and beyond.
Moreover, a level ten Animal Whisperer could command a greater array of Soul Modes.
Adept Animal Whisperers might even possess combat abilities surpassing those of spirit animals.
If even humans with inherent frailties could achieve such power, the potential in spirit animals was boundless.
Each tenth rank spirit animal was a force to be reckoned with, endowed with the capacity to alter its destiny.
By awakening their diluted ancient bloodlines and seeking the strength of their ancestors, their intelligence would burgeon, with some even rivaling that of humans.
In the annals of the Noshar Empire, there was a tale of an ordinary Fire Fox that, through sheer luck, evolved to a level of terror that wreaked havoc and became the empire’s nightmare.
As the adage goes, heroes falter before beauty, and beauty before heroes.
This fox engaged in numerous fierce battles with the empire’s mightiest, their clashes too close to call. Ultimately, their conflict led to the bedroom, where over ten years, six children were born.
“This must be the place!”
Standing before an immense pool of molten lava, Zhou Mu stowed his map, his expression grave.
According to the map, the dragon species lurked within the lava pool.
The area teemed with fire toxin, enabling fire attribute fiend beasts to unleash formidable power.
Moreover, facing a Lord-grade dragon species meant this battle was destined to be exceptionally tough.
Yet, there was no choice; the dragon species had to be slain.
Should he fail to seize this chance, returning would prove far more challenging.
“An ordinary person wouldn’t stand a chance at drawing it out.”
With a sinister chuckle, Zhou Mu opened the storage bag at his waist and began to vigorously shake it.
Puff! Puff! Puff!
Storage bags tumbled to the ground, quickly piling up over half a meter high.
A quick tally suggested there were no fewer than fifty.
Zhou Mu grabbed one, untied the rope, and started emptying it into the lava pool.
Puchi! Puchi! Puchi!
Metal containers over a meter tall sank into the lava and detonated after five seconds.
Visibly, the surrounding lava rapidly solidified into ice and began to float up.
One by one, hundreds of metal containers plunged into the lava pool.
Meanwhile, the score on the display skyrocketed from a single point to fifty!
Undoubtedly, the fire toxin within the magma was far more fearsome. If only he could endure a few hours submerged in it...
Zhou Mu shuddered involuntarily, quickly suppressing the urge to do something fatally reckless.
Diving into that would likely leave him skinned alive, if not dead.
“Hot! Hot! Hot!”
Golden hopped out of the magma pool’s vicinity, bouncing frantically on the ground.
The heat was unbearable; it felt like it had lost a layer of skin upon mere contact.
“Boss, this is tough going!”
Golden gazed at Zhou Mu with a forlorn look. The magma pool was the Fish Dragon’s turf, and as a bird, it was at a clear disadvantage.
“Fear not. I’ve brought over 30,000 canisters of liquid nitrogen, enough to turn this entire magma pool into a block of ice.”
Zhou Mu gave a menacing chuckle and produced another storage bag.
“Boss, you’re incredible, powerful and dominant!”
Golden let out a piercing cry and unleashed a blast of golden sword energy.
Boom!
Explosions echoed nonstop as dozens of storage bags burst open, spilling out more than two thousand canisters of liquid nitrogen.
Golden refrained from charging into close combat with the Fish Dragon, opting instead to detonate the liquid nitrogen with its sword qi.
The frigid temperature of the liquid nitrogen instantly turned the surrounding lava into ice upon explosion.
A few dozen canisters wouldn’t make a dent in the lava pool.
But what about a few thousand? Or tens of thousands?
Unless a king arrived to intervene, no mere lord could reverse the tide of battle!
Minutes ticked by, and the lava pool grew increasingly filled with ice, its temperature plummeting rapidly.
The fire-attributed Fish Dragon, unacquainted with such phenomena, seethed with undiminished fury.
Several fiery columns erupted, but Zhou Mu agilely dodged each one. Unable to contain its rage any longer, the Fish Dragon made its move.
Boom!
Its fiery red body vaulted from the lava pool, tracing a stunning parabola through the air.
The residual molten lava cascaded out alongside the Fish Dragon, coalescing into a new, smaller lava pool upon impact.
Intent on a swift and decisive victory, the Fish Dragon engaged Zhou Mu in close quarters, planning to slay him and then retreat to its domain.
As one of the fiercest fiend beasts of the Fire Grounds, the Fish Dragon had clashed with humans many times—eighty if not a hundred.
It understood that the real threat wasn’t the powerful spirit animals; eliminating the human would cause the spirit animals to vanish as well.
Fish Dragon’s strategy was sound, but Zhou Mu was no fool. How could he possibly engage a tyrant beast in combat with his mere human form?
Once he tossed his storage bag aside, Zhou Mu bolted for the distance.
The abundance of liquid nitrogen tanks sealed the Fish Dragon’s fate, ensuring it had no chance of escape.
Leaving the battlefield to Gator and Goldie, Zhou Mu, as an Animal Whisperer, knew better than to add to the chaos when he couldn’t personally vanquish the foe.
The air was filled with a cacophony of booms, explosions, and screams.
Without its home field advantage, the Fish Dragon didn’t last long before Gator’s tail delivered a fatal blow.
”First target, down!” Zhou Mu exclaimed, surveying the fiend beast that now lay on the ground, no longer resembling a fish. His spirits were high.
The initial victory was his, and he anticipated no further complications.
